So I talk a lot about what it’s like to be a cam girl, and what it takes to succeed as one. But you may wonder as I blather on about consistency and engagement and attracting those wonderful, wonderful whales…why? Like, why pick this job rather than serving up lattes at Starbucks? At least then you get free coffee (I imagine, I don’t actually know lol)!
I want to talk about some of the reasons for becoming a cam girl here, and the reasons that it’s a helluva job worth sticking with. And of all those reasons, I’ll save the very best for last, so don’t bail on me till I’m done!
I’ve got some elite-level tips at the end, so read on!
Reason #1 – Camgirl Money
Ask around, and by far the number one reason you’re going to hear for becoming a cam girl is money. The need of it, that is. Cam girls tend to be young, obviously, and their age group isn’t known for financial security.
We all know what it’s like to have bills due or some unexpected expense come up while also having a hard time finding a regular job, all the while knowing that even if we do get hired it’ll be weeks before we’re paid. It’s about as much fun as drinking a snot and maggot milkshake, and it’s all too common.
Becoming a cam girl is a great solution to these kinds of problems, and not just because of the enormous amounts of money you can make doing it. It’s also how SOON that money starts coming in. You can see revenues as early as your first night broadcasting, with just a little luck on your side.
Of course, it only gets better from there. If you know what you’re doing (and one of the main purposes of this blog is to make sure that you do), you can easily make a living through camming alone within the first month. Over time, the sky’s the limit: Plenty of top cam girls are pulling down six figures.
Reason #2 – The Freedom of Webcam Modeling
Then there’s how flexible the whole thing is. You know what it’s like to work a hard schedule that won’t bend to save your life, with a boss acting like he owns your soul and obnoxious customers giving you a hard time just because they know they can. Gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s not much fun.
When you decide to be a cam girl or webcam model, though, YOU are the boss. You literally set your own hours, you work at your own pace, and if you get sick or have an emergency come up, you don’t need anybody’s permission to take a day off.
Webcam modeling, with only rare exceptions, is a self-employment career. That means freedom to do what you want, when you want, as often or as little as you want. No bosses!
I mean, I don’t want to make it sound like you can just do whatever you want, since it IS important that you keep to the schedule you set for yourself, but nothing is hard and fast and carved in stone. You need a break, you can take a break. Your fans will understand, and they’ll be there waiting eagerly for you when you get back. Try THAT with an employer who’s counting your time on the clock.
Reason #3 – Sexual Growth
Then there’s the fact that doing this kind of work, in this kind of industry, just makes you better as a person. No lie. A lot of people, especially young women, come into adulthood with this history of repressive training around sex that leaves them prudish and self-conscious. It doesn’t have to be that way and it shouldn’t, but that literally never even occurred to me until I started camming.
There’s no great shock in saying that being a webcam girl is a sexually-charged line of work. And that’s a GOOD thing. You’re going to be talking to a lot of guys (and some girls) about their kinks and fetishes, and they’re going to encourage you to open up about yours. Not everything they tell you will be stuff you’re into, but that’s ok.
Growing as a sexual being is a fantastic adventure, and webcam models experience this more than any other profession. Being exposed to new and different kinks can be mind-blowing.
Learning what’s not for you is just as important as discovering what you DO like, and engaging with cam site members will teach you that as well. And it’ll just plain make you comfortable with being naked, which if you really think about it, is something that shouldn’t ever be a problem in the first place!
Seriously, just think about all the sexual hang-ups you probably have, maybe without even realizing it. Can we all just agree that as long as nobody is getting hurt when two (or however many) consenting adults are having fun together, there’s no reason to get all squicked out?
Nobody is, or ever should, tell US that WE need to do anything we don’t enjoy. But acting judgmental toward people who ARE into some of those activities just isn’t right. That’s a lesson I had never learned for a whole lot of my life, and being a cam girl taught it to me. People are people, no matter WHAT they’re into.
Reason #4 – Camgirling Teaches Business Skills
Alright, so money and freedom and sexual liberation are all awesome parts about becoming a cam girl. I wouldn’t take back a thing I’ve said about them. But if I’m honest, none of them can even touch on the single greatest gift that working in front of the camera can give you, especially if you’re a career-oriented person who wants to succeed in life. That’s not just now, but in the future. And I’m talking about business experience, honey.
Being a cam girl teaches you sooo much of what you need to know to run your own business. Why? Because you ARE running a business. You didn’t think the webcam modeling business was just about dancing around your bedroom while waiting for tips to come in, did you?
To be a successful cam girl, you have to understand how to market yourself and your brand. You need to know how to deal with customers in a patient, friendly way. You have to manage sales and plan for future expansion. It’s all contained under the great big umbrella of what it is to be a cam girl, and this job teaches it all to you!
Being a cam girl taught me so much about marketing, and I know that I can use that knowledge in plenty of businesses outside webcam modeling.
Just look at social media alone. For any cam girl to make it nowadays, she has to be able to network on Twitter (with both cam site members AND other models), run basic and premium Snapchat accounts, and probably have a presence on OnlyFans.
Now, none of these skills are particularly difficult to learn, but they’re all essential. And more importantly, they’re transferable. Cause let’s just say that in the 21st century, working on a cam site isn’t exactly the only time that online networking and communications skills are going to come in handy. Try nearly ANY other business you will EVER work in!
This means that when the time comes and you finally retire from being a cam girl, preferably with a long and successful career behind you and lots of earnings piled high in the bank, you’re going to be well-equipped to move on to other parts of the business world.
That includes just about any kind of mundane, non-adult work you can imagine. Because now you know how to talk to people, how to promote a brand online, and how to draw buyers in through your doors. Knowledge like that is worth more than anything else you can get from this or any job, girls. Knowledge like that is power, and it’s one of the best reasons to be a cam girl I can think of.
